We held an afternoon get-together at the Mound City Nutrition Center, 613 State Street, beginning at 2 PM. Beverly Todd Voltmer provided an array of refreshments while the group enjoyed visiting with each other and family members who also attended. Each classmate spoke about their family, work, retirement and shared memories of our high school days. Special guests were Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Mendenhall of Burlington, IA, who joined us in the afternoon. They were in town for the Alumni Banquet and wanted to stop by and see old high school friends. We all enjoyed seeing them again and having them be a part of our afternoon get-together. The Alumni Banquet was held in the evening at the high school, and afterwards, we adjourned to the home of John and Judy Hood for a post-party, as no one was ready for this reunion with old friends to end. In 5 years, we will celebrate our 50th Class Reunion--and yes, we can't believe that could possibly be. We still feel the way we did in high school except for a few aches and pains, of course. The group decided to add more events to that special "Honor Class" reunion and to try to encourage more of our classmates to attend. It will be fun. Mark your calendars for Memorial Day weekend, 2015 in Mound City! Those who attended the afternoon coffee and/or the Alumni Banquet included: Greetings were sent from the following who could not attend or updates given about them: ANNOUNCEMENT: Additionally since our reunion, we lost our former vocal music teacher and lifelong friend, Esther M. Haynes, mother of Harvey Haynes. Esther, 93, died on Sept. 16 at a Kansas City hospital after surgery for a heart condition. Just weeks before, she was living in her own home and driving her truck. Those of us who attended the Alumni Banquet got to see her that night and it was a delight to visit with her. Memorials may be sent to the Mound City Nutrition Site or the Mound City United Methodist Church. ------------------------- 40th Class Reunion of the MCHS Class of 1965 34 attended reunion | reunion photos The afternoon get-together moved to the basement of the MC Methodist Church because there wasn’t enough room at the Super 8 Motel lobby. We talked and thoroughly enjoyed each other’s company until almost 5 p.m. when we suddenly realized we had better get ready for the MC Alumni Banquet that was to begin at 6 p.m. We just didn’t want to leave because we were having such a wonderful time getting reacquainted! Beverly brought numerous snacks and goodies, as did several others. Lost track of who brought what, but many thanks to all. Martha Carolyn Currier Dixon was not able to attend due to health difficulties but sent a gift to the class instead. She had crocheted a huge American flag that was displayed for all to see. Beverly will keep it safe for use at future reunions and/or at events around MC as needed. Many thanks to Carolyn for the many hours she lovingly crocheted that flag. It was appreciated deeply by all who attended. Twenty classmates attended the banquet at the high school. Our class was one of the honor classes since it was our 40th. Naturally, we had the most people there. Robert Young and Deborah Wilson Frantz traveled the farthest. They decided Deborah would accept the gift, one of the floral centerpieces. Janet made our class announcements and gave them our headcount and other info about the group. Attached is a list she complied of all who attended. We were “exceptional” once again with our attendance and enthusiasm. Remember, we dubbed ourselves “The Exceptionals” in our class prophecy and will. The banquet ended around 8, and then we were off to the post-party at the home of John and Judy Hood. They have a beautiful lodge home on the bluffs overlooking the river and Squaw Creek Refuge. Most left around midnight, but some hardy folks stayed longer. It was a wonderful party and everyone had a chance to visit and reminisce. No one was really ready to part company, but we left for our respective homes anyway with some tears and much joy. Such a great group. Some things never change. Several classmates met Linda Sue Jones for breakfast at the Super 8 Motel on Sunday because she was unable to attend on Saturday. Such a delight to see her after all these years.
